One of our Junk Kouture groups, Angel of the Past, has made it through to the Milan-City Finals!  Junk Kouture is a Youth Sustainable Fashion Competition which challenges young people to design, upcycle and create high end Kouture from recycled Junk. PASCAL Private English School Lefkosia is the first school in Cyprus joining and you can find more information about this amazing global opportunity for youth at the following link: https://junkkouture.com/

Angel of the Past consists of Year 5 pupils Asal Bayrampour, Maria Karadjas and Nicoletta Christofi, who worked with black recycled bags to create yarn for crochet, can pull-ups for chains and carton and paper for wings.  Pipes, bags, nuts, and bolts were used to create the wings movement through mechanics, and a dumped metallic clothes hanger was repurposed as a headpiece. Expired gold spray paint has been used on some parts of the outfit, and gloves and shoes were restructured from junk material.

The pupils are to be merited on their creativity, determination and problem-solving abilities, having experimented with different techniques and materials under the guidance of their teacher-mentors, Ms Rebecca Apostolidou (Drama teacher) and Mrs Ioanna Kanari (Art teacher), until the desired final outcome was reached.  The whole creative process has been an incredible journey of growth and resilience, and of huge benefit in shaping the future.
