Globeducate and PASCAL International Education are leading a transformative educational journey, leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to foster growth, creativity and ethical awareness. Central to this innovation is the Globeducate HiAi! initiative, alongside other STEAM projects, that bring together students from across Globeducate schools to explore AI in meaningful ways.
HiAi! - A Standout Success Story
A highlight of the HiAi! is AInstein Junior, an AI chatbot developed by students to personalise learning and demystify complex topics. This innovative project gained global attention when the BBC invited students to create an AI-powered robot modelled after the renowned presenter, Christian Fraser.
On Monday, 4th December 2024, the BBC visited PASCAL Private Secondary School Larnaka to feature this extraordinary collaboration. Priya Lakhani, co-presenter of AI Decoded, interviewed Daniel Jones, Globeducate Chief Education Officer and Elpidoforos Anastasiou, Head of AI and Innovation at PASCAL International Education, alongside students who brought the project to life for PASCAL. Following its showcase in Cyprus, the AI robot will travel to BBC Studios in the UK for international recognition.
“The ethical use of AI and educating students about its transformative potential are critical in today’s rapidly evolving world. Projects like these not only prepare students to navigate the future but empower them to lead responsibly and ethically.” — Daniel Jones, Globeducate Chief Education Officer
“It’s amazing to see our work featured by the BBC! This project has taught us so much about AI and teamwork, and we’re proud to showcase what young minds can achieve.” — Student Participant, PASCAL Private Secondary School Larnaka
Following the BBC feature, local media also hosted Mr Elpidoforos Anastasiou along with students who participated in the hi!ai project.
Unlocking Potential through Innovation
Globeducate believes in empowering students to realise their potential by providing opportunities to innovate and excel. The HiAi! initiative exemplifies this vision, giving students hands-on experience with AI-powered tools. These activities, along with other STEAM education practices, encourage learners to develop technical expertise while fostering a deep understanding of ethical technology use.
Through the HiAi! initiative, Globeducate guides students to understand both the opportunities and challenges of AI. Key teaching points include:
- The Good: Demonstrating how AI can be a force for positive change, particularly in education and sustainability.
- The Bad: Highlighting risks, such as over-reliance on AI, which may undermine meaningful learning experiences.
- The Ugly: Addressing concerns such as deep fakes, fraud, and safeguarding issues.
By nurturing critical thinking and ethical awareness, Globeducate equips learners to make informed and responsible decisions in the digital age.
Preparing Global Citizens
At the heart of Globeducate’s mission is the commitment to nurturing students into global citizens who can shape the world. The HiAi! initiative fosters collaboration across Globeducate’s network of 65+ schools in 11 countries. Additionally, the new HiAi! Sustainable Cities Project is set to roll out soon, offering students the chance to explore AI in the context of building smarter, more sustainable urban spaces.
Students will engage in designing 3D city models, creating smart gardens with IoT sensors, and developing AI systems to analyse ecosystems and urban spaces.
Together, we are shaping the world.
