Our Year 2 students took part in a two-day educational excursion to the Troodos region as part of the Erasmus+ programme “ROOTS: Our Roots as Foundations for Development.” The visit combined cultural, historical, and environmental learning experiences designed to strengthen students’ understanding of Cyprus’s heritage and natural landscape.

The programme began at the Monastery of Saint Nicholas in Orounta, where Abbess Philoumeni shared the monastery’s history. Students also engaged in a discussion with the community leader at the local folklore museum, exploring the challenges faced by rural communities and suggesting ideas for local development.

A STEAM outdoor lesson followed at the UNESCO-listed churches of Panagia tis Podithou and Agios Nikolaos tis Stegis. Under the guidance of Mr Theofanis Panayi, students explored religious art, architecture, and cultural heritage through experiential learning activities.

In Kakopetria, students visited local museums and walked the “Vateri” nature trail, deepening their understanding of the village’s history and natural environment. The experience continued with an environmental workshop by the Troodos Geopark and a visit to the Botanical Garden, highlighting Cyprus’ biodiversity.

The excursion concluded in Platres with a literary walk linked to the Modern Greek unit “School through time,” guided by Ms. Panagiota Andreou, following the literary legacy of George Seferis.

The school extends its sincere appreciation to Mr Theofanis Panayi and Ms Panagiota Andreou for their valuable guidance and support throughout the programme.
