Our school had the honour of participating in the 3rd Shakespeare Schools Festival in Luxembourg, organized by St. George’s School, on the 5th and 6th of February 2025, marking our first-ever involvement in this prestigious event.
A group of 21 enthusiastic pupils from Years 1 to 4, accompanied by three dedicated teachers, traveled to Luxembourg to take part in this remarkable celebration of Shakespeare’s works. They performed a scene from Othello, reenacting the grand General’s arrival in Cyprus—a fitting parallel to their own journey from Cyprus to Luxembourg. The performance was a truly unforgettable experience, as our pupils had the rare opportunity to work alongside professional technicians and sound engineers, bringing their scene to life on a stage with full lighting and a live audience.
Beyond the performance itself, the festival provided a unique platform for our pupils to interact with peers from across Europe and gain valuable insights into theatre production, rehearsals, green room etiquette, and stage timing—skills that go beyond the classroom and will stay with them for years to come.
They also had the chance to immerse themselves in Luxembourg’s rich culture and history as they navigated the city both on foot and through its efficient and free public transport system and explored the city’s fascinating blend of old and new. They visited iconic landmarks such as the Grand Duke’s Palace, Notre Dame Cathedral, and the historic quarters of Luxembourg City and experienced a private backstage tour of the Grand Théâtre, where they witnessed firsthand the magic behind the scenes of a professional theatre production.
More importantly, this four-day journey strengthened the bonds between pupils and teachers, encouraging empathy, cooperation, and teamwork; from rehearsing together to discovering a new city side by side, our pupils returned home with hearts full, minds open, and personalities enriched. This unforgettable experience has undoubtedly shaped our pupils in ways that go beyond the stage, instilling in them a newfound appreciation for theatre, culture, and the value of collaboration.
