Between the 30th of January and 2nd of February 2024, four talented pupils from PASCAL Private English School Lefkosia, Varvara Chekhina, Kristina Vorobeva, Theoni Melissa Panayiotou and Olivia Neocleous represented their school in the four-day Globeducate XII International Music Festival, held in Barcelona, Spain, organized by the Agora Sant Cugat International School.

The four pupils, together with their Music teacher Ms. Maria Valanidou, attended intense rehearsals daily, together with peers aged between 12 and 17, from other Globeducate schools around the world, merging their musical skills in a wonderful blend of talent, ethos, and comradeship.

Stepping into the orchestra for the first time, after seven years of playing the violin, felt like the beginning of a new chapter in my life!’ – Kristina Vorobeva

The festival culminated in a grand solidarity concert entitled ‘Heal the World,’ which aimed to raise funds for the Tamasian project (https://www.tamaisan.com/) with the Emalaikat Foundation (https://emalaikat.es/) and which was held at the Sant Cugat School Auditorium.

‘ It was the first time I ever participated in an orchestra, and it was magnificent!!!’ – Varvara Chekhina

In between rehearsals and the concert, the four pupils were able to experience the local culture and cuisine whilst staying with host families, simultaneously making new friendships, and forming new ties.

‘I had the privilege of residing with a warm and welcoming host family, making new friendships and forming unexpected connections, all while pursuing my passion!’ – Olivia Neocleous

Staying with local host families, coupled with the responsibility and commitment of being part of such a huge orchestra, has undoubtedly provided the pupils with a unique opportunity for personal growth, which they will remember for life!

‘Spain was an awesome experience! I got to perform on stage, meet new people and learn a lot and I think it was really amazing to be able to do that!’ – Theoni- Melissa Panayiotou
