On Monday the 5th and Tuesday the 6th of May 2025, PASCAL Private Secondary School Lefkosia pupil-athletes volunteered at the annual Cyprus Special Olympics, held at the GSP Stadium.
The event was organised by the Cyprus Special Olympics Federation, a national body dedicated to promoting inclusion through sport for individuals with intellectual disabilities, empowering athletes to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, and experience joy through participation in a supportive and inclusive environment.
In preparation for the event, a representative from the Federation visited the school to brief the pupils on their roles for the day, which included assisting athletes with positioning, serving refreshments, and organizing medals. The group was also joined by the Erasmus+ pupils from Belgium, currently visiting the school on a mobility program focused on physical education, whose presence brought an added layer of cultural exchange enriching the experience for everyone involved. The enthusiasm, commitment, and ethos demonstrated by all pupil-athletes throughout the event were truly remarkable. Their conduct reflected the core values and principles of the school’s Athletic Section — respect, teamwork, responsibility, and the pursuit of excellence. By supporting others with compassion and integrity, they embodied what it means to be not just athletes, but leaders and role models.
This annual collaboration is a cherished tradition within the school as it provides pupils with a meaningful learning opportunity that not only connects them to the local community but also introduces them to a deeper, more inclusive aspect of sport — one that fosters teamwork, empathy, and a spirit of unity. Events like these remind us that sport is more than competition — it is a celebration of inclusion, cooperation, and shared humanity.
