Between the 22nd and 24th of November 2024 Year 5 and 6 PASCAL Private Secondary School Lefkosia participated in the OxfordMUN 2024, a prestigious Model United Nations conference attended by schools from around the world!
In addition to their academic activities the pupils were also treated with sightseeing in the historic city of Oxford alongside pupils from our sister schools in Lemesos and Larnaka. They explored the Bodleian Library, the Ashmolean Museum, the iconic Radcliffe Camera, the charming Alice Shop, and enjoyed a classic punting experience on the River Cherwell. They also strolled through the scenic Christ Church Meadow, soaking in the beauty and history of the city.
The three-day conference, held at the University of Oxford, provided pupils with the opportunity to engage in high-level discussions on pressing global issues in esteemed committees, such as:
World Health Organization (WHO) – Addressing the global response to infectious disease outbreaks.
International Olympic Committee (IOC) – Deliberating on the role of sports in promoting peace and addressing ethical challenges.
Special Political and Decolonization Committee (SPECPOL) – Examining territorial disputes and the effectiveness of foreign aid.
Economic and Financial Committee (ECOFIN) – Exploring solutions to tax evasion, illicit financial flows, and government debt crises.
Many thanks to our teacher-mentors Ms. Donna Demou, Ms. Georgina Miltiadous, Ms. Christina Mariou, and Ms. Flora Mariou for accompanying and supporting the pupils throughout this enriching experience which allowed our pupils to hone their diplomatic and analytical skills while embracing the spirit of international cooperation. We are so proud of their accomplishments!
