At our school, we are committed to cultivating an environment that is open, inclusive, and welcoming to all pupils, regardless of their background. Through small yet meaningful initiatives, we continuously seek ways to bring our pupils closer not only to the Greek language but also to the rich culture that accompanies it.
In this spirit, the Department of Modern Greek and Classical Studies, in collaboration with the teachers of Greek as a Foreign Language, recently organised a unique cultural workshop themed around the traditional Cypriot wedding. Pupils of Greek as a Foreign Language had the opportunity to engage with the customs, songs, and stories that are central to this important cultural event — not through textbooks, but through immersive, hands-on experiences.
Our classroom was transformed by sounds, colours, and heartfelt emotions. The pupils themselves became active participants in the tradition — learning, creating, and sharing. They tasted traditional resi, were treated to loukoumia, and experienced Cypriot hospitality in its most authentic form.
Special thanks are extended to our dedicated teachers, Dr Charalambos Modestou, Sandri Constantinou, Christia Symeou, and Giorgos Diogenous, for their commitment and thorough preparation of their pupils for this workshop.
We also express our sincere gratitude to Ms Antria Ioannou, Head of the Department of Modern Greek and Classical Studies, for inspiring the idea and for her thoughtful coordination of the entire initiative.
It is through such actions that tradition becomes more than memory — it becomes a living bridge, connecting individuals, fostering understanding, and enriching the learning experience for all.
